Put your shop in front of local clammers
Sound Clam Status is a free site that collects shellfish hotlines, permits, limits, rain-closure rules and tides for 19 shoreline areas on Long Island Sound: 13 in Connecticut and 6 on Long Island’s North Shore. A small number of labeled sponsor spots help keep it free.
Who visits
People getting ready to rake clams, oysters and mussels on the Sound: checking a town’s hotline, what a permit costs, the daily limits, or whether rain has closed the beds. They’re local, they’re heading to the water, and many of them need bait, gear, a launch or a bite to eat on the way home.
This is a new site. We don’t have traffic numbers worth quoting yet, and we won’t make any up. That’s why the first sponsors get founding pricing (below).
Where sponsor spots appear
- Town pages: one sponsor card at the bottom of each town page, below the hotline, rules and newsletter signup. Pages: Greenwich, Darien, Norwalk, Westport, Fairfield, Milford, Branford, Guilford, Madison, Clinton, Waterford & East Lyme, Groton, Stonington, Oyster Bay, Huntington, Smithtown, Brookhaven, Riverhead, Southold.
- Site-wide: the sponsor card on the home page, and the Connecticut and New York guides.
- Thursday email: one short sponsor line per issue in the free weekly email.
- Every spot shows your name, a line or two about your shop, and a link to your site. Each one is labeled as a sponsor.
Simple, local prices
Month to month. No contract, cancel anytime.
$25 per month
The sponsor spot on one town’s page, for example Groton or Southold. One sponsor per town.
$75 per month
The sponsor spot on the home page, and both rain & how-to guides. One sponsor at a time.
$15 per Thursday email
A short, labeled line with a link in the Thursday “What’s posted open this weekend” email. Or $40 a month for every Thursday.
The first 5 sponsors pay half price for their first 3 months, and keep the launch rate for a full year.
A town page spot works out to $12.50 a month to start.
The rules
- Sponsors never affect status. Bed status comes only from official town and state sources, and the site always tells people to call the hotline.
- Sponsor spots are always labeled as sponsors. How the site works is on the disclosures page.
- One sponsor per spot, so you won’t be sharing a town page with a competitor.
- Local businesses only: bait and tackle, marine supply, marinas, kayak outfitters, seafood markets and waterfront restaurants.
